Summary

University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) is seeking a seasoned, compassionate, and visionary Lead Midwife to champion our growing Midwifery Practice and OB/GYN APP team.

Our Midwifery Service offers holistic, patient-centered care throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. It has been a cornerstone of reproductive care at UVMMC for 57 years, delivering high-quality care across generations. This robust service manages a low to moderate risk patient caseload, serving approximately 500-550 families annually. In parallel, our Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team—comprised of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants—delivers obstetric, mental health, and advanced gynecologic care from menarche to menopause. This includes both routine and complex gynecological services, with specialized expertise in Colposcopy, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, and Perinatal Psychiatry, which enhances access and continuity of care for our patients. Our APPs play a vital role in contributing to a collaborative, interdisciplinary model that prioritizes excellence in reproductive health.

As part of an academic medical center, our teams are deeply engaged in clinical education, mentoring medical and APP learners, and fostering a culture of inquiry and continuous quality improvement. They are valued contributors to our teaching mission and nurture the development of future healthcare professionals. We are actively working to launch a Midwifery Education Program within our academic model to meet the growing regional demand and to cultivate the next generation of midwifery leaders. Our Midwifery Service will serve as a primary site for clinical education, offering immersive, hands-on training grounded in patient-centered care and interprofessional collaboration.

We’re seeking a passionate professional who thrives in team-based environments and is committed to advancing high-quality, inclusive care. This role calls for an expert-level professional with the ability to inspire teams, drive strategic initiatives, and elevate clinical excellence. The position includes oversight of clinical practice, scope of practice advocacy, research, education, consultation, and policy development, all aligned with the mission and vision of the Department of Obstetrics, Midwifery, Gynecology and Reproductive Health and the University of Vermont Medical Center. The Midwife & OB/GYN Lead role offers latitude for a midwife leader with both obstetric and advanced gynecologic care experience to shape the future of care delivery, education, and innovation.
