Nursing Careers at The University of Vermont Health Network

Pharmacists are the backbone of UVM Health Network, connecting people with the medicine they need.

Our pharmacy team fulfills several important roles necessary to provide patients with crucial care. These positions provide great potential for advancement with on-the-job training.

Pharmacist Opportunities

Our pharmacists are specialized, covering a variety of different areas including:

  • Inpatient
  • Outpatient
  • Home Infusion
  • Specialty Pharmacy
  • Buyer
  • Pharmacy Informatics

Inpatient:

Our Inpatient pharmacy technicians help handle medication within the hospital, delivering orders and maintaining supplies. They also answer triage questions from physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals.

Outpatient:

Our Outpatient pharmacists provide excellent service for patients even after they leave the hospital. We have a variety of different positions in this field from retail staff pharmacists to call center workers. We have the Meds to Beds program, which supports patients throughout the discharge process and helps to overcome medication access barriers. With these roles, we strive to bring great care to all members of our communities in need.

Home Infusion:

Home Infusion pharmacists help provide patients medication, education, and support within their homes, including IV infusions and enteral nutritional therapies. This can be complicated but that’s why we have a full team of technicians, nurse coordinators, and billing analysts to facilitate the process. We foster a positive and collaborative work environment with a focus on high quality patient care.

Specialty Pharmacy:

Our specialty pharmacy offers clinical and delivery services for medications used to alleviate complex conditions like Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and more. These diseases can be especially difficult to deal with, which makes the pharmacists, clinicians, patient care coordinators, and many others who work in this area vital for successful treatment.

Buyers:

Without buyers, the hospital would not be able to function. Buyers are responsible for overseeing the daily pharmaceutical acquisition process and making sure that the pharmacy is adequately stocked. They must also manage drug shortages and find reasonable alternatives when necessary.

Pharmacy Informatics:

Technology plays a major role in medicine, including in the pharmacy. Pharmacy informatics specialists know this firsthand, as they are the people who manage the software and hardware of pharmacy systems and machines. They must collaborate both with vendors and with other pharmacists to ensure that everything works correctly, which leads to a varied workflow, with rapidly changing demands and surprises. By using technology skills to support doctors and nurses firsthand, pharmacy informatic technicians hold a vital position in healthcare.
