This is a bargaining union position.

We are seeking a skilled French–Swahili Medical Interpreter to join our Language Access Services team as a fulltime professional. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, patient-centered professional who ensures equitable access to healthcare for Patients with Communication Access Needs and their families. This role provides high‑quality interpretation in clinical and non-clinical settings to support safe, respectful, and effective communication.

  Interpreters may also support the Language Access Services department in areas such as training and education, documentation, community or committee work, or other initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • High proficiency in French, Swahili, and English (spoken and comprehension).

  • Formal training in medical or community interpreting (60‑hour minimum).

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, cultural humility, and trauma‑informed communication practices.

  • Strong understanding of the national code of ethics and standards of practice.

  • Ability to work in fast‑paced clinical environments with compassion and professionalism.

  • Minimum of a year of community interpreting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National certification (CCHI or NBCMI) or willingness to pursue certification.

  • Experience in healthcare settings or hospital-based interpreting programs.
