Unit Description: This Emergency Department Nurse Educator is a registered nurse who develops and provides educational opportunities including orientation programs, individual development plans, in-service education, and continuing education opportunities to emergency department staff.  He or she will identify individual staff and departmental needs through learning needs assessment tools, and will participate in quality improvement initiatives, as identified by data, trends, and organization-level directives. This nurse educator also works in conjunction with the multidisciplinary nursing education team, participating in general new clinical hire and traveler onboarding, nursing skills fairs and teaching ongoing education courses that offer hospital-wide support. This position reports directly to the Manager of Nursing Education, however works collaboratively and indirectly reports to the Manager, Director, and Medical Director of the Emergency Department. This position is comprised of 64 hours of educator time and 12- 16 hours of clinical time (pending individual preference) in the Emergency Department, per pay period.

Basic Knowledge: Registered Nurse with current, unencumbered license in the State of Vermont. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, supervisory, and teaching skills.  Current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification is required. ACLS, PALS, PEARS, or NRP provider certifications may be required; however, these are specific to unit-need, and are required within one year of hire. BLS Instructor certification will be required within one year of hire. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with members of the community, personnel throughout the organization, peers, supervisors, and subordinates.


Minimum Requirements: BSN required. Master’s degree in a nursing or education preferred (will consider other Master’s level degrees). Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience. Actively participates in professional organizations and/or institutional committees. Experience in educational/consultative role through professional and/or volunteer activities.
