The scope of responsibility and accountability for the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner aligns with professional standards and continuously evolves to meet the demands of the practice setting.

The NPD Practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) with NPD practice judgement and expertise who influences professional role competence and growth of learners in a variety of settings with a desired outcome of improved population health. The term “practitioner” is used in this specialty only in conjunction with NPD as a title.

For Central NPD Practitioners:

  • BSN required.
  • Nursing Professional Development Board Certification required or is currently eligible to sit for this certification.
  • 2 years in a department-based (unit or clinic) nursing professional development practitioner role is strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in nursing education preferred.
  • Certification in clinical practice/specialty practice preferred.
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience as a clinical preceptor required.
  • 5 years of nursing experience required.
  • 5 years of nursing experience in the applicable clinical specialty strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Special Skills:

  • Expert user of the electronic health record system.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint with a high level of quality and productivity.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and make independent decisions to accomplish goals, and adapt to changing work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, and adult teaching/learning principles.
  • Competent use of LMS system.
  • Excellent communication, teaching, group facilitation and presentation skills, and an ability to work well within a team environment to support department and organizational objectives.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and simultaneously maintain multiple directives from multiple different stake holders (unit leadership, directors, staff, other NPDPs and NPD Specialists)
