JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides occupational therapy to patients in varying states of health and illness. The practice of occupational therapy means the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups for the purpose of participation in roles and situations in home, school, workplace, community, and other settings. Occupational therapy services are provided for the purpose of promoting health and wellness and to those who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation, or participation restriction. Occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of performance in a variety of contexts to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well-being, and quality of life. The occupational therapy assistant functions as an essential member of therapy and multidisciplinary teams providing direct care to patients. Educates and prepares patients/families and caregivers for continued care after discharge. The occupational therapy assistant may be involved in consultative services within UVM Medical Center and in the community. The occupational therapy assistant demonstrates dedication to professional growth and development and to the continuous improvement of patient care. Based on their education and training, occupational therapy assistants must receive supervision from an occupational therapist to deliver occupational therapy services. Occupational therapy assistants deliver occupational therapy services under the supervision of and in partnership with occupational therapists. Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants are responsible for collaboratively developing a plan for supervision.

EDUCATION:

Associate's degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program. Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice as an occupational therapist assistant in the state of Vermont

EXPERIENCE:

Acute Care experience preferred.
