JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Infection Preventionist II is responsible for working with the Infection Prevention team and Hospital Epidemiologist to identify, control and prevent healthcare associated infection in the hospital and ambulatory care sites. The individual functions as a liaison between Infection Prevention and all UVM Medical Center departments supporting key strategic priorities. The Infection Preventionist II manages and performs the collection, analysis and reporting of healthcare associated infection data. The individual assists with the development of the organizations' infection prevention plan and priorities. The Infection Preventionist II is responsible for the development, review, revision, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based infection prevention policies and procedures throughout the organization. The individual implements and coordinates improvement activities. The individual manages and conducts special studies or investigations in potential epidemic, outbreak or exposure situations. The individual is responsible for development and presentation of education modules for all levels of personnel, patients and visitors. The individual serves as an infection prevention consultant to leadership to maintain accreditation and regulatory readiness and serves as a UVM Medical Center liaison to external partners.

EDUCATION:

Minimum requirement: Bachelor's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Medical Technology preferred.  RN licensure in the State of Vermont preferred, certification in medical technology preferred.  Master's Degree preferred (MSN, MPH, Epidemiology, Clinical Microbiology). 
Completion of basic infection prevention training course such as APIC EPI: 101, The Fundamentals of Infection Surveillance, Prevention and Control. 
Current Certification in Infection Prevention from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC). 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three years infection prevention and epidemiology experience in an acute care hospital environment.
