Chief Perfusionist

The University of Vermont Medical Center, Inc. seeks a Chief Perfusionist to work in Burlington, VT, to be responsible for all aspects of extra-corporeal technology and the perfusion service. Duties include: (i) supervision and conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass and auto transfusion; (ii) scheduling staff perfusionists for routine and semi-routine emergent procedures; (iii) ensuring on call coverage for all appropriate procedures; (iv) quality control, proficiency testing, and regulatory standards related to the perfusion service; (v) directing perfusion related educational and research programs, ensuring the perfusion staff has advancement in both areas and are meeting the standards of practice set forth by the Chief; (vi) proper operation and maintenance of all perfusion related equipment as well as overseeing the training and maintained competency of ancillary staff who utilize said equipment; (vii) conducting yearly evaluation of staff perfusionists; (viii) onboarding and training of new staff and scheduling staff to meet the department needs, and assisting in the recruitment and disciplinary actions of staff perfusionists; and (ix) working with Perioperative Leadership and the cardiothoracic team to assist with cardiothoracic service line program development and growth opportunities.

Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Life Sciences or a related field plus five (5) years of experience as a clinical perfusionist.

Experience must include three (3) years in: (i) a Perfusion Management or Chief role; and (ii) management of an ECLS program in coordination with Perfusion Lead.

Must have experience with/knowledge of: (i) cardiac physiology, anatomy, and pharmacology; (ii )cardiac surgical procedures; (iii) cardiopulmonary bypass and auto transfusion principles; and (iv) quality control and proficiency testing principles.

Must also have (or be eligible for) Certification through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Must be able to provide an anticipated 50% call coverage in support of cardiac and ECLS programs on a rotating basis.

Must be willing to relocate to Burlington, Vermont or immediate surrounding area.

Experience can be concurrent.

The salary for this position is $216,382 annually.
