This is a bargaining union position.
At Porter Medical Center we are improving the health of our community, one patient at a time.
Please note this is a 36 hours per week position on the evening shift (primary shift time is 2PM-9PM) with rotating weekends.
This position is eligible for the following differentials:
Evening $2.50/hour and weekend evening $3/hour
Sign on bonus!
Eligible candidates will receive a sign on bonus of $3,000 for a one-year commitment. Current UVMHN employees are not eligible. Certain terms and conditions apply.
Job Description:
The Laboratory Assistant performs four essential roles in the function of the Laboratory:
1) Lab Customer Service
2) Phlebotomist
3) Lab Order Entry including handling of patient information and test results.
4) Specimen Processing and Shipment of samples to Reference Labs
- Provides Exceptional Customer Service to all stakeholders in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of the Laboratory and UVMHN
- Obtains specimens for testing according to policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
- Performs administrative duties to meet the needs of the Laboratory Department and the customers served by the laboratory
- Processes specimens prior to testing, ensuring quality and adhering to established policies and procedures
- Works collaboratively with coworkers, Technologists and other staff within department and in other departments throughout the Organization
- Uses a variety of communication skills to meet the needs of the laboratory department and the customers served by the laboratory
- Participates in continuing education and departmental development functions to support professional growth and departmental initiatives
Education:
Able to read, write and speak the English language
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Phlebotomy Certification from a nationally recognized agency is highly recommended. Phlebotomy experience is a plus. Computer entry and word processing skills required. Working knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Good interpersonal communication skills required. Approximately six months to a year is required to learn the job for satisfactory performance.
