The Clinical Donations Specialist performs a variety of duties, all of which are either directly or indirectly related to increasing the availability of suitable organs and tissues for transplantation. The incumbent is the primary liaison to the Center for Donation and Transplant in developing and implementing strategies to increase donor referrals and improve performance outcomes in organ and tissue donation at all Vermont hospitals and assigned NY state hospitals in the CDT donation service area. This is an on-call positions with hours outside the normal business hours. Responds to referrals and performs clinical evaluations of potential donors. Approaches families for organ and tissue donation authorization for disclosure of authorization in the presence of the donor designation. Clinically manages authorized donors and allocates organs according to CDT and UNOS policies. Develops and sustains relationships with referring physicians, nursing staff, hospital leadership and other hospital staff in assigned hospitals to achieve performance goals. Identifies barriers to donation in assigned hospitals and works with hospital partners to overcome these challenges. Assists management in reviewing and assuring all hospital development documentation is complete and meets standards. In addition, the Clinical Donations Specialist supports CDT in facilitated public education activities in the greater Burlington community.

Requirements:

1. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communication, education or a health care related field.

2. Requires one year patient care experience in an acute care setting. Prefer one year of experience working in an organ procurement organization in hospital services, family services or clinical operations.
