This is a bargaining union position.

Primary Shift: 1100-1730

Secondary Shift: 0900-1730

GENERAL SUMMARY: 
Under the direction of the Laboratory Leadership, the Order Entry Specialist must have the ability to enter orders into the Electronic Medical Record. Any and all orders sent to UVM-CVPH not sent electronically will need to be entered to create a referral for scheduling. The Order Entry Specialist will be responsible for correctly entering a referral using the existing referral provided, paying attention to detail and executing a complete referral. The Order Entry Specialist will ensure a valid order has been presented, including Medical Necessity if required is appropriate, and will collaborate with ordering providers to make needed corrections. The Order Entry Specialist will collaborate with lab leadership to ensure accuracy with order entry. The Order Entry Specialist will communicate with the Pre Access Center for any and all changes with referral, and scheduling needs. The Order Entry Specialist will schedule patients for outpatient testing at the description of the Laboratory leadership request. 


QUALIFICATIONS:  
Education/Skills Required:
1.    High school graduate required. 
2.    3 years customer service experience in a Laboratory setting preferred. 
3.    Prior Laboratory scheduling is preferred.
4.    Ability to schedule Laboratory Testing proficiently.
5.    5 years of working within a Laboratory department preferred. 
6.    Applicants who have attended a medical coding course or have medical coding experience will be considered first.
7.    Positive intrapersonal communication skills, written and oral.

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
