UVM Medical Center (UVMMC) is hiring a Director of Supply Chain to join their leadership team!

Please note: This is an onsite position in Burlington, VT.

SUMMARY

The UVMMC Director of Supply Chain serves as the senior supply chain leader at UVMMC and liaison to the UVMMC Operations and Leadership Teams.  This role oversees all material handling and logistics operations across the medical center, an off-site warehouse and affiliated clinics. The Director ensures efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of medical supplies and equipment, mailroom services, laundry/linen distribution, and print shop operations. A peer leader across the network, the Director collaborates on system-wide initiatives and contributes to strategic supply chain planning and execution. This position is responsible for staff leadership, budget performance, operational excellence and UVMMC Supply Chain project management in alignment with network policies and clinical priorities.

CORE COMPETENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Develop and implement supply chain strategies aligned with health system goals.

  • Lead policy, procedure, capital planning, and performance oversight for supply chain operations.

  • Collaborate with hospital leadership to support strategic initiatives and patient care priorities.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Manage and optimize a $15M annual expense budget.

  • Analyze financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for supply chain services.

Supply Chain Operations Expertise

  • Oversee receiving, storage, and distribution of medical supplies and equipment.

  • Ensure accurate inventory levels and timely replenishment across departments.

  • Manage supplier relationships and recall processes.

Staff Development & Team Leadership

  • Hire, train, evaluate, and develop supply chain staff across functional areas.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

  • Implement mentoring and training programs to build internal expertise.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management software, and data analytics.

  • Familiarity with lean principles, distribution models, and strategic planning.

  • Ability to manage change and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Ensure adherence to health system policies, accreditation standards, and safety regulations.

  • Maintain knowledge of infection control, quality, and compliance protocols.

  • Support product standardization and backorder management through Value Analysis collaboration.

SPECIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Healthcare supply chain expertise in ordering, receiving, warehousing, and distribution

  • ERP and inventory systems proficiency with strong data analytics capabilities

  • Leadership and team development across diverse operational areas

  • Regulatory and safety compliance including infection control standards

  • Strategic alignment of site operations with network-wide goals

  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement

  • Change management and continuous improvement

  • Lean principles and project management knowledge

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Healthcare, or Business (Master’s preferred).Membership in Material Management professional organization(s) desirable.

EXPERIENCE

Twelve (12) years’ experience in Supply Chain Management with at least five (5) years at the management level in a healthcare setting. Experience with Material Management Information Systems is required. Demonstrated ability to lead cost reduction efforts across the organization required.
