UVMHN Pathfinder Program

Respiratory Therapist (RT) Pathway Program at the University of Vermont Health Network

Ready to further your education?

Pathfinder is a partnership with Community College of Vermont and is funded in part by a generous grant from M&T Bank. This program will be available to employees of all UVMHN VT & NY Partners.

Pathfinder is intended to serve as a pipeline for employees to access UVMHN Pathway Programs.

What is the purpose of this program?

This program will support employees who are seeking to enter a UVMHN Pathway Program to begin taking prepaid preparatory courses, prerequisites and corequisites through CCV. For example, if you’re thinking about getting started in the UVMHN LPN Pathway Program in partnership with VTSU, Pathfinder could fund up to the four required preparatory courses!

Program Details

Employees who are accepted into the Pathfinder Program will receive up to four prepaid vouchers. These vouchers can be used towards pre-selected courses with CCV.

A selection of nine identified class options will be offered in partnership with CCV. Participants can access courses online or in-person. Options consist of preparatory courses, prerequisites and corequisites all of which are intended to support employees in pursuing a UVMHN Pathway Program.

Pathway participants will need to be prepared to apply to a UVMHN Pathway Program, however participation in Pathfinder does not guarantee admission into future UVM Health Network Pathway programs or at any educational institutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many work hours are required during the program?

Employees maintain their current working schedule while participating in the program. Classes are in addition to work hours and that time is unpaid.

What classes are offered as part of this program?

  1. Anatomy & Physiology I
  2. Anatomy & Physiology II
  3. Human Growth & Development
  4. Intro to Nutrition
  5. Microbiology
  6. Applied Mathematics
  7. English Composition

How are the classes paid for?

Pathfinder is primarily grant-funded. Tuition, fees, and textbooks will be paid in full by grant funds. Additional financial aid may be available using federal or state aid.

Will Pathfinder continue to be offered in the future?

Ongoing course voucher availability is based on available funding and employee participation.

What happens if I am selected to participate in Pathfinder and I redeem a voucher – but I do not pass the course? Or I need to withdraw?

If a participant is not successful in a prepaid course (they withdraw, fail, etc.) and needs to retake a course, they may do so, but they would need to redeem another course voucher, counting towards their four prepaid courses.

Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

What if someone is selected to participate in Pathfinder and redeems their vouchers and successfully completes their coursework with CCV – but does not apply for a Pathway Program?

There may be recourse to recoup the funding of prepaid coursework should someone not meet this requirement. Situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Is there a limit to how many vouchers I can redeem per semester?

Participants may not take more than two prepaid courses per semester.

Do I have to redeem the vouchers within a certain period of time?

All vouchers requested must be redeemed within two academic years.

What if I’m not an employee at UVMHN – can I still apply?

Employment is an eligibility requirement for the Pathfinder Program. Applicants must currently work full-time, at least 72 scheduled hours per pay period. Part-time employees may be eligible if funding and seat availability allows for additional participants; per diem employees are not eligible.
